Updated Panic Meters for Every NFL Team

Brad GagnonNov 6, 2026

We've reached that point in the NFL season where panic levels are beginning to rise.

Some teams find themselves in contention but are battling obstacles that cause plenty of anxiety, while others are clinging to life on the fringe.

Meanwhile, some have already been put out of their misery, while a few—and it really is just a few—are on cruise control.

Here's a breakdown of where every team stands, on a scale of 1 to 10.

AFC East

Buffalo Bills: 3/10

The state of the defense warrants some genuine unease, and the tolerance for anything short of a Super Bowl is extremely low. But the Bills have a relatively comfortable lead in the division and are favored to win it all.

Miami Dolphins: 1/10

A rebuilding team with limited proven talent has been competitive in every game since Week 3. It was an ugly start but they're overachieving with zero expectations.

New England Patriots: 6/10

To an extent, they're victims of their short- and long-term history. The bar is high. They've flashed plenty of resilience this season and appear well on track to get back to the playoffs, but a deficit in the division and a daunting schedule from here on out have anxiety levels spiking a touch.

New York Jets: 5/10

The fan base might be beyond panic at this point. I'd imagine most supporters are resigned following a 2-6 start. The panic lies with the dead-man-walking head coach, as well as veterans Geno Smith, Garrett Wilson and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Browns Steelers Football
Aaron Rodgers

Baltimore Ravens: 10/10

It can't be higher when you've got Super Bowl expectations but you find yourself in last place and without your franchise quarterback.

Cincinnati Bengals: 7/10

As good as the Joe Burrow-led offense has looked of late, it's become apparent that the Bengals will face a tall task trying to overcome defensive liabilities. If they can't, huge changes are likely in store this offseason.

Cleveland Browns: 1/10

Like the Dolphins, this is a bad team exceeding expectations in a zero-pressure season. It's a small window in which fans can watch without stress before the bar inevitably rises in Year 2 for this regime.

Pittsburgh Steelers: 8/10

It's not as though they've fallen short of expectations. If anything, they've overperformed. But it's pretty much a constant state of panic when you've got a 42-year-old quarterback and a low margin for error stemming from a lack of overall firepower.

Houston Texans: 9/10

Prior to the season, I figured the panic would surround quarterback C.J. Stroud. Instead, it's a high-panic situation because they're three games back in the division and it has little to do with Stroud. The window is supposed to be wide open, but at 2-5 their season is on the brink.

Indianapolis Colts: 1/10

It's post-panic time now in Indy. They've already dropped their general manager and sold off several key parts. A rebuild looms.

Jacksonville Jaguars: 2/10

They're cruising, and the window hasn't been open long enough for the expectations to be overwhelming. The only panic realistically relates to mounting injuries on both sides of the ball.

Tennessee Titans: 5/10

They're uncompetitive with low expectations to begin with, and there should be tolerance for the new staff. That said, Cam Ward's limited improvement is enough to generate some significant anxiety.

AFC West

Chiefs Broncos Football
Patrick Mahomes

Denver Broncos: 7/10

The thing about the Broncos is that every game is a panic. It's become a way of life with this team. Another comeback win over Kansas City in Week 8 has them less panicked than before, but this team operates in a high-stress manner and that isn't likely to change between now and February.

Kansas City Chiefs: 8/10

The window is undoubtedly closing and now they've lost back-to-back games to fall out of first place. The panic level has doubled since the evening of Oct. 25.

Las Vegas Raiders: 1/10

They're exceeding expectations in a low-bar campaign, and Fernando Mendoza hasn't made his first start yet. It appears the rebuild is moving at a brisk pace.

Los Angeles Chargers: 9/10

It's only short of 10 because their 2026 season is lost at 0-7. There has to be massive panic about the direction things are going with this regime and core.

NFC East

5 of 8
Cardinals Cowboys Football
Dak Prescott

Dallas Cowboys: 10/10

Even with the Eagles nosediving, they're multiple games out of first place in a bad division. Recent home losses to Tampa Bay and Arizona have undoubtedly triggered full-fledged panic mode. I'm not sure this core and staff can survive another non-playoff campaign.

New York Giants: 1/10

They're good without any expectation of being good, with Jaxson Dart sidelined. There's practically nothing to stress about at the moment.

Philadelphia Eagles: 7/10

While there's little reason left to panic about a lost 2026 season, a potential fire sale and questions about the future at key positions are enough to keep the tension high.

Washington Commanders: 7/10

This is a bad team with one of the most talented young quarterbacks in the game. It's an uncomfortable position in which to be, especially with the NFC East so winnable this year.

NFC North

Panthers Packers Football
Jordan Love

Chicago Bears: 2/10

The offense is rolling, the defense is opportunistic, and they know they've got the right coach-quarterback combo. The only agitation is likely related to the fact they remain merely in a wild-card spot.

Detroit Lions: 8/10

That might seem high for a 5-2 team, but the Lions have a bottom-10 scoring defense and find themselves in third place in a stacked division with the window closer to the end than the start.

Green Bay Packers: 8/10

That might seem high for a 5-3 team, but the Packers have a bottom-10 scoring offense and find themselves in last place in a stacked division with the window closer to the end than the start.

Minnesota Vikings: 5/10

Can't sweat too much when you're 6-1, but with the three above teams giving chase and the schedule toughening up, there's plenty of reason to remain guarded. Plus, a lot of Vikings fans are likely unconvinced Kyler Murray is the guy.

NFC South

Buccaneers Panthers Football
Bryce Young

Atlanta Falcons: 4/10

The extreme inconsistency is alarming, but the key pieces are in place and I don't think many expected them to contend this year anyway. This spikes if they haven't made significant progress by this time next year.

Carolina Panthers: 7/10

A November slide is brewing for a franchise stuck in neutral mid-rebuild. Where is this going?

New Orleans Saints: 6/10

The only real panic for a team that wasn't expected to contend is likely linked to a lack of major progress from quarterback Tyler Shough under Kellen Moore. Is this actually the right formula?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 4/10

The softness of the division keeps the panic level in check for a team that appears to be on its last legs. An NFC South title would be seen as a bonus at this point, with significant changes likely on the horizon regardless.

NFC West

Chargers Rams Football
Matthew Stafford

Arizona Cardinals: 1/10

They're not talented enough to contend but they're showing fight with this new coaching staff. Another inevitable bad season overall will surely be frustrating, but not panic-inducing.

Los Angeles Rams: 10/10

It's close to all or nothing for a supposed superteam that finds itself 2.5 games out of first place. Injuries are a factor, as is the fact their 38-year-old quarterback is realistically declining.

San Francisco 49ers: 6/10

They're in control of the division, but the competition is fierce. Factoring in their injury history and the age of the roster, this isn't a low-stress scenario.

Seattle Seahawks: 7/10

They survived a turnover-plagued season to somehow win the Super Bowl in 2025, but that's extremely unlikely to repeat itself this time around. This is all gravy to an extent anyway, but it's a high-panic situation with the consideration that the 2025 squad might have been a one-hit wonder.
