Eagles' QB Joe Milton Talks Preparation Ahead of 1st NFL Start vs. Giants Amid Jalen Hurts Injury

Timothy RappNov 5, 2026

Joe Milton III will make his first NFL start on Sunday against the New York Giants as the floundering Philadelphia Eagles try to end a six-game losing streak.

For Milton, staying ready for such a moment was a key part of his preparations throughout the season.

"You never know what can happen in NFL. That's kind of how I took it. Yes, I was on the practice squad, and I was just preparing for any moment that presents itself," he told reporters. "Still, when I was at Dallas on the practice squad, I was just pretty much going through the plays, going through the week like I was a starter or like I was playing, and just being ready. And that's what the NFL is about: Just being ready when your name is called and just preparing for those moments. And I've been preparing and still preparing for the week."

Milton will be the fourth quarterback Philly has used this season behind starter Jalen Hurts and backups Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee. But while those quarterbacks were with the team during training camp, the Birds signed Milton off the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad in mid-October.

And now it's his moment in the spotlight. The possibility that Milton has been preparing for has arrived.
