New Yankees Rumors Reveal MiLB Manager to Join Red Sox for Role on Chad Tracy's Staff

After spending four seasons managing the New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, Shelley Duncan is leaving to join the Boston Red Sox.

Per Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam of MassLive.com, Duncan is taking a job on Chad Tracy's staff at the MLB level with the Red Sox.

It's unclear what Duncan's specific job title will be.

Duncan spent most of his playing career in the Yankees organization. He was a second-round pick by New York in the 2001 MLB draft out of the University of Arizona.

After spending seven seasons in the minors, Duncan made his big-league debut with the Yankees in 2007. He appeared in 68 games over the next three seasons before becoming a free agent.

Duncan signed with Cleveland prior to the 2011 season where he got his most extensive playing time, appearing in 242 games over three years. His last stint in MLB was with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013, though he spent time in the minors with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds in 2014.

Following his retirement as a player, Duncan moved into coaching when he was hired as the manager of Arizona's Low-A affiliate in 2015. He worked his way up to managing at High-A and Double-A with the Diamondbacks.

Duncan had stints with the Toronto Blue Jays as an MLB field coordinator and the Chicago White Sox as an analytics coordinator before returning to the Yankees organization in 2023.

During his time managing the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, Duncan put together a 327-263. The RailRiders reached the 2025 International League Championship Series, losing in three games to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

Tracy took over as Boston's manager on an interim basis on April 25 after Alex Cora was fired. He went 77-58 to lead the Red Sox to the playoffs as a wild card.

Boston officially named Tracy its full-time manager on Sept. 22.
