Jordyn Tyson Returns to Saints Practice, Latest Rumors on WR's Timeline to Make NFL Debut
The New Orleans Saints are getting closer to seeing the debut of their first-round pick. Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson returned to practice on Wednesday, according to Saints reporter Nick Underhill.
New Orleans selected the Arizona State product with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but a hamstring injury landed Tyson on the injured reserve list during training camp.
Saints head coach Kellen Moore told reporters on Monday that the team is still working through a decision on opening Tyson's 21-day return window, which would begin if Tyson makes his return to practice.
Despite having a 2-5 record, the Saints still have the opportunity to make the playoffs in a weak NFC South division.
The Saints could activate Tyson at any point during his window, but a return sooner than later could be crucial to turning their season around. Although the Saints are currently in last place in their division, they are only one win behind the Carolina Panthers for the division lead.
After an opportunity to reset and get healthy during a Week 8 bye, New Orleans will have a chance to get back in the win column Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. The following week, the Saints will face the Panthers at home in a game that could have massive playoff implications. Having Tyson back before then could prove to be significant.
Tyson could help draw some defensive coverage away from star wideout Chris Olave, who is currently on pace to surpass 1,500 receiving yards this season. Olave and third-year wide receiver Devaughn Vele are currently the only two Saints wide receivers with more than 10 catches and 100 receiving yards.
The Saints have the No. 14 ranked scoring offense in large part due to their passing game, but they have struggled to move the ball on the ground and their defense has been porous. Along with Tyson, New Orleans could also see offensive tackle Kelvin Banks and running back Travis Etienne return from injured reserve, which could help improve their rushing attack.
