Greg Newsome, Giants Reportedly Agree to Contract Extension, Full Details Revealed
The New York Giants agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $46 million with cornerback Greg Newsome on Tuesday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Per Schultz, the contract contains $32 million guaranteed.
Newsome is in the midst of his first season on the Giants after signing a one-year deal with them as a free agent on March 10.
Now, he's under contract through his 2029 campaign.
Newsome won a positional battle in training camp for a starting cornerback job on the Giants and hasn't looked back.
In six games, he's racked up 25 tackles, six passes defended and one interception. Newsome has only allowed a 62.0 passer rating when targeted, according to Pro Football Focus.
He's been an important piece of a New York secondary that has helped the team compile the NFL's No. 3 pass defense, allowing a mere 184.9 yards per game through the air.
Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson previously praised Newsome's performance to begin the season.
"He's been a great impact," Wilson told reporters on Oct. 8. "I love him. Man, I believe so wholeheartedly in him and his ability. He has cultivated the room with his energy, with his effort, his attention to detail, his willingness to learn, his willingness to go the extra mile to bring guys in with – him and (safety) Jevón (Holland) bring the DBs in the group, watch extra film together."
Newsome was initially selected by the Cleveland Browns with a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, operating as a starter for Cleveland until he was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the middle of the 2025 season.
He's amassed 49 passes defended, six tackles for loss and five interceptions across 77 career games.
Newsome's long-term future in New York is now secure as he looks to help the Giants build upon their 4-2-1 record this season.
