Caitlin Clark Reveals WNBA's Toughest Player to Defend, Hypes Fever Teammate Kelsey Mitchell

Like a lot of her WNBA peers, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark does not like to see the ball wind up in the hands of five-time MVP A'ja Wilson.

Wilson was the first player Clark cited when asked on Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce who are the toughest players in the league to defend.

"I think that would probably be everybody's answer," she said at the 32:47 mark. "She's just so difficult, just her size, her physicality, her athleticism. She can make a mid-range jump shot super consistently. She can stretch the floor when she wants to. And then she can finish around the rim really well."

Clark added that it's often apparent early into a game whether Wilson will basically be unguardable. On those occasions, the focus shifts to limiting the Las Vegas Aces' supporting cast.

Wilson's 22.1-point career scoring average is the highest in WNBA history, and she's tied for the single-game scoring record (53 points).

The 6'4" center operated around the basket and in the mid-range to begin her career and evolved to become an effective stretch 5. She shot above 40 percent from beyond the arc in each of the past two years.

It's not a stretch to say Wilson is on pace to be the WNBA's greatest scorer ever.

Clark went on to remark her Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell is often near the top of these conversations when she's chatting with players around the WNBA.

Mitchell took her offensive game to another level in 2026. She set career highs in scoring (24.7) and field-goal percentage (50.9). She was third on the MVP ballot and a first-team All-WNBA honoree for the second time.

Next season, Clark may learn the hard way what it's like to defend Mitchell.

The 5'8" guard is headed for free agency and said last month she intends to be a little "selfish" when weighing up her next month. That doesn't guarantee she'll leave Indiana, but the odds have seemingly gone up.

Her exit would be a massive blow to the Fever and make Clark's life more difficult on defense.
