Making the Case For an LA Knight Heel Turn on WWE Raw
As more information comes to light regarding the John Cena Classic, rumors are also emerging regarding how WWE originally wanted to present the event.
According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), the initial idea for the John Cena Classic was a tournament in which the fans voted for who would move on to the next round after each match.
Meltzer noted that such a format would cause issues since WWE would have no way to prepare for subsequent matches ahead of time with the fans making the call on who advances in real time.
During Monday night's episode of Raw, John Cena announced that the John Cena Classic will be held at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, on Dec. 14.
Earlier on the same day, Raw will be held in Australia, meaning there will be two separate episodes of Raw on Dec. 14.
Cena also unveiled the John Cena Classic Championship and revealed that fans will get to vote for the inaugural winner of the championship on Club WWE.
The format of the event remains somewhat unclear, though, as it isn't yet known if it will be a tournament with certain Superstars working multiple times, or if it will merely be a series of matches.
More updates may be relayed Wednesday night when Cena makes a special appearance on NXT.
Reported Reason for Montana Joining 946
Another shocking addition was made to the 946 stable on Monday night, as Cruz Montana joined the group.
According to False Finish (h/t H Jenkins of Ringside News), Royce Keys made the call for Montana to become part of 946.
False Finish previously reported that Keys was the one behind Carmelo Hayes joining 946 as well.
Keys faced Solo Sikoa in the main event of Raw on Monday, but there was not a definitive finish due to interference by 946.
Sikoa escaped further punishment, which allowed for the rest of The Bloodline to make its way down to the ring, leading to a stare-down and a brawl.
Amid the chaos, a masked figure appeared and took out Roman Reigns. The man under the mask revealed himself to be Montana, officially making him the sixth member of 946 along with Keys, Hayes, Jaida Parker, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price.
Montana is scheduled to face Dion Lennox on Wednesday night's episode of NXT, but that figures to be his NXT swan song, as Keys reportedly had his request granted in the form of Montana becoming the latest member of 946.
Now that 946 has five male members and The Bloodline will as well once Jacob Fatu returns, all signs point toward a WarGames match happening at Survivor Series this month.
WWE's Reported Reaction to Green vs. Bella Match
WWE reportedly isn't sweating any fan backlash against the WWE Women's Championship match between Chelsea Green and Nikki Bella from last week's episode of SmackDown.
Although the match was panned by some fans on social media, WWE officials reportedly aren't concerned about the reaction.
According to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), WWE "moved on" and "don't care about" how the Green vs. Bella match is being rated on sites such as Cagematch.net.
WrestleVotes noted that WWE and fans of Bella and Green aren't concerned with their in-ring work as much as they are their merchandise sales, social media impressions and other metrics.
On SmackDown, Green beat Bella to retain the WWE women's title and secure her spot at Crown Jewel this weekend where she will face women's world champion Liv Morgan for the Women's Crown Jewel Championship.
While Green vs. Bella wasn't a technical masterclass by any means, it was effective in terms of solving the conflict between Chelsea and Nikki, and moving the storyline between Green and Morgan forward.
Not every match can or should be a five-star classic, and it sounds as though WWE is well aware of that.
