Brandon Aiyuk Hires New Agent to Aid NFL Return, Latest Rumors on 49ers Contract Status

Joseph ZuckerNov 2, 2026

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has hired Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported Aiyuk's agent change is part of his effort to return to the league.

Given his reserve/left squad status from 2025, the veteran pass-catcher will have to formally file for reinstatement before he can suit back up again.

Aiyuk created an almost daily spectacle on social media as he unsuccessfully tried to engineer an offseason move away from the 49ers.

At one point in June, he said he fired his agent and hadn't had formal representation since November 2025. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio followed up to say Ryan Williams was still listed as Aiyuk's agent of record.

The 28-year-old's relationship with San Francisco might be damaged beyond repair. Even after injuries hit the team's receiver room hard early into the season, coach Kyle Shanahan had a succinct response when asked about Aiyuk:

Setting aside all of the off-field drama over the summer, other teams will be weighing the fact Aiyuk hasn't appeared in an NFL game since October 2024. Two full years is a long time for a player to be sidelined.

Hiring an agent, especially one as prominent as Rosenhaus, represents a small step in the right direction. The timing also keeps the door open for San Francisco trading Aiyuk prior to the Nov. 10 deadline, though the clock is obviously ticking there.
