Patrick Mahomes' Wife Brittany Calls Out Penalty Call Overturning Chiefs' TD in Loss to Broncos

The wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes passionately disagreed with the false start penalty that wiped out a game-winning touchdown in Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Brittany Mahomes said in an Instagram Story the flag "was the weakest call I have ever seen."

Patrick Mahomes hit wide receiver Rashee Rice for the go-ahead score, but the play was whistled dead before the snap. The six-time Pro Bowler questioned whether the movement by right tackle Jaylon Moore was enough to warrant the penalty.

"It didn't surprise me or catch me, so it couldn't have been big," Mahomes told reporters. "It was called. You have to go with whatever's called. But a lot of times, in those big moments, the little stuff doesn't get called like that."

Coach Andy Reid went a step further.

"I didn't see [a penalty]; that's one man's opinion," he said. "I saw him move his head, but I didn't see a false start."

It probably doesn't become a story if the referees don't throw a flag and the Chiefs win the game. Moore's movement wasn't all that noticeable in real time.

However, subsequent replays showed his right foot did move ever so slightly backward. By the letter of the law, that's a false start.

There's no question the penalty was consequential. Kansas City isn't in that position in the first place if it doesn't squander an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter, though.

Prior to the false start, the offense also had three shots within four yards of the goal line to get into the end zone.

The frustration from the Chiefs and their fans is understandable because a close loss to a division rival is a tough blow no matter the circumstances. But Kansas City had ample opportunity to put the contest out of reach before the final seconds.
