A 15-0 run led by Bo Nix capped a 28-24 Denver Broncos victory over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

A missed field goal set up Nix and the Broncos' game-winning drive, as Nix and Jonah Coleman charged down the field to take the lead for the first time since Denver's opening 3-0 advantage.

The Broncos' game-sealing defensive stand, capped by a sack of Mahomes, secured the victory after Denver entered Sunday's home matchup as 1.5-point underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

The loss marked the Chiefs' second straight defeat after they fell 20-3 to the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks last week. The Chiefs dropped to 5-2 after winning five consecutive games to open the season.

The Broncos moved into first place in the AFC West with the win, improving to 6-2 and overtaking Kansas City who fell to second.

The Broncos struck first with a Will Lutz field goal, but the Chiefs quickly answered as Mahomes connected with Rashee Rice for an 11-yard touchdown to take a 7-3 lead after the first quarter.

Both teams added a field goal and a touchdown in the second quarter, sending Kansas City into halftime with a 17-13 advantage.

Mahomes extended the Chiefs' lead in the second quarter with an explosive 73-yard touchdown pass to Emmett Johnson. Nix answered by finding Jaylen Waddle for a 1-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal, keeping Denver within striking distance.

The Chiefs scored the third quarter's only touchdown, extending their lead to a two-score game on a touchdown pass to Noah Gray.

The Broncos struck first in the fourth quarter when Nix connected with Nate Adkins for a touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion to cut the deficit to a field goal.

The Chiefs burned 6:24 off the clock on their next drive, but a sack of Mahomes forced them into a difficult 54-yard field goal attempt. Harrison Butker missed, giving Nix and the Broncos prime field position with a chance to take the lead.

Nix immediately connected with Jonah Coleman for a 51-yard pass to move the Broncos into the Chiefs' red zone. Coleman capped the drive one play later with a 5-yard rushing touchdown, but Denver may have left too much time on the clock for Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce on a big pass to move the Chiefs down the field, but Kansas City could not convert from the Broncos' 1-yard line. Denver's defense stood tall at the goal line, finishing the game with a sack of Mahomes to seal the home win.

The Chiefs will host the New York Jets, while the Broncos will hit the road to face the Carolina Panthers next Sunday. Both games are scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
