Sebastian Vettel previously held the record by becoming a world champion at 23 years and 134 days old in 2010, per ESPN's Nate Saunders.
As for Antonelli, he won the drivers' championship in just his second year of F1 competition after replacing Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2025.
"We did it," Antonelli said after Sunday's race, per Formula1.com. "You know, without them, I wouldn't be here – without Mercedes, without my family. So I'm very grateful for this moment, and it's one that will live forever. I'm speechless. I'm trying to process what has just happened."
"This weekend I did feel a bit more tense, but I'm just so happy, and happy that we got it done, and now we can enjoy the rest of the season," he added.
Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton finished ahead of Antonelli at the Mexico Grand Prix, although they lifted the 20-year-old up on their shoulders at the podium to celebrate his accomplishment.
Antonelli also became the first F1 world champion from Italy since Alberto Ascari in 1953.
