Rex Ryan Rips Ashton Jeanty Dissing Jets in Video, 'Soft as Charmin... Worst Draft Pick in 20 Years'

Joseph ZuckerNov 1, 2026

Former New York Jets coach Rex Ryan had choice words for Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty as the teams prepared to play Sunday.

Jeanty drew the ire of Ryan after telling reporters the Jets have some defensive players "that don't really want to tackle."

Ryan responded by calling the second-year back "soft as Charmin" and asserting he's "about the worst draft pick in the last 20 years":

Jeanty put a big target on his back with how he dismissed the Jets defense, and he displayed a level of confidence he may not have earned on the field.

Calling the former Boise State star the worst pick from the last 20 years is a stretch, but his production so far has been underwhelming to say the least.

Through 24 games, Jeanty has run for 1,303 yards and six touchdowns, and he's averaging just 3.5 yards per carry. In the Week 7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, he had 15 yards on the ground.

Challenging the Jets defense so openly is bound to generate a response as well.

New York hasn't been great against the run. The team is surrendering 127.7 yards per game, good for 24th in the league.

It's not as simple as the Jets flipping a switch and becoming an elite defensive team, but you can rest assured they'll give Jeanty and the Raiders offense their best shot.
