New 49ers Rumors on Potential WR Trade After DeForest Buckner Deal Ahead of 2026 NFL Deadline

The San Francisco 49ers reportedly may be looking to make yet another splash ahead of the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline.

According to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, the Niners are "sniffing around" for wide receiver help, as they deal with numerous injuries at the position.

The 49ers have already made one significant trade, acquiring three-time Pro Bowl and one-time First Team All-Pro defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the Indianapolis Colts this week.

While that move fortified San Francisco's front four on defense, there is no question that wideout remains a need offensively.

Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson and rookie De'Zhaun Stribling are all on injured reserve, while Deebo Samuel has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury, and Mike Evans missed last week's game against the Atlanta Falcons with rib and Achilles ailments.

The Niners suffered their first loss of the season last week, falling 29-20 to the Falcons on the road.

A lack of production from the wide receiver position seemed to play a significant role in the loss.

Tight end George Kittle led San Francisco with 88 receiving yards, followed by running back Christian McCaffrey with 61 yards.

Outside of them, Jordan Watkins had three catches for 56 yards, Jacob Cowing had three grabs for 38 yards and Brandin Cooks made one reception for 13 yards.

Watkins, Cowing, Cooks and Christian Kirk are the only healthy wide receivers on San Francisco's roster currently, which is not a group that puts quarterback Brock Purdy in the best position to succeed.

Of course, Evans and Samuel should be back in the not-too-distant future, and Stribling should come off IR at some point as well.

However, in the meantime, Purdy and the San Francisco offense as a whole would benefit from a reliable receiver who can command at least some defensive attention.

Brian Thomas Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jerry Jeudy of the Cleveland Browns, Josh Downs of the Indianapolis Colts, Jauan Jennings of the Minnesota Vikings, Chris Godwin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rashod Bateman of the Baltimore Ravens and Quentin Johnston of the Los Angeles Chargers are among the wide receivers rumored and speculated to potentially be available via trade.

The 6-1 49ers are on the bye this week, meaning their only game left before the trade deadline will take place on Nov. 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
