The new logo of the Houston Comets has been unveiled.

As the Comets prepare to return to the WNBA for the 2027 season, they showcased their updated logo in a series of social media posts on Thursday.

The team was initially part of the WNBA from 1997 through 2008.

In March, the Connecticut Sun were sold to the Fertitta family with plans to relocate to Houston and be renamed as the Comets following the 2026 season.

The new logo shares a similar color scheme as Houston's original logo, although the team couldn't revive the old design as a primary logo due to WNBA rules (h/t USA Today's Danielle Lerner).

For the new primary logo, there are four stars included in the letter "H" to represent the team's four WNBA championships. There's also a large white star that pays tribute to Texas' nickname, the Lone Star State.

Comets senior creative director Jose Lopez discussed the similarities between the new and old logos.

"The logos, they're a memory," Lopez said, per Lerner. "They're one of the championships that you went to with your family. If you're watching television or listening to the radio and you hear 'Houston Comets,' all those memories come back, right? So when you see these, when you see this color scheme, I think that people will really gravitate to it."

The Comets won championships in each of their first four years with the WNBA, boasting stars including Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson.

Houston made another WNBA Finals appearance in 2005, but couldn't emerge victorious before missing the playoffs in two of the next three seasons. The WNBA eventually assumed ownership of the Comets in 2008 before the organization was disbanded.

Now, the team is back to host games at Toyota Center starting next season.
