"This tour has been a huge part of my career from the very beginning, and I'm proud to call it home again," he said. "I'm also keeping my options open for a return to the PGA Tour."
Garcia's decision comes as little surprise.
After filing for bankruptcy, LIV Golf laid out plans to transition to a "next phase." Nobody knows for sure what that structure will look like, but it's guaranteed to be a scaled down version in terms of schedule and purses.
As a result, a lot of LIV's most recognizable names are playing elsewhere next season.
The LIV defectors don't have a straightforward path to the PGA Tour. The tour's Returning Member Program from earlier this year only applied to a select few golfers and was open for a brief window.
As a result, the DP World Tour will become a big beneficiary for those who harbor aspirations of returning to the PGA Tour at a later date. In the case of Garcia, he needs to play high-level golf somewhere in order to fulfill his goal of competing on the Ryder Cup team.
The 46-year-old is past his prime, and his game likely suffered from his participation in LIV. His 2017 Masters victory is the last time he had a top-10 finish in a major tournament, while the 2019 KLM Open was the last DP World Tour win.
Playing a more regular schedule may allow for Garcia to rediscover enough sharpness to impress European captain Luke Donald ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup.
