Kevon Looney Injury: Updates on Warriors Forward's Recovery from Hip Surgery

Golden State Warriors rookie power forward Kevon Looney underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his right hip, the team announced.

Looney out a Minimum of 4-6 Months

According to the Warriors, Looney's rehabilitation process will begin immediately. 

"Kevon has his entire NBA career ahead of him, and we felt that, in consultation with our medical staff, Kevon and his representatives, it was best to address the issue now," Warriors general manager Bob Myers said in the team's official statement. "He will have our complete support throughout the rehabilitation process, and we are confident he will make a full recovery."

Following successful surgery, Looney updated his status with a post on Instagram: 

The Warriors selected Looney with the 30th pick in the 2015 NBA draft after he pieced together a standout season at UCLA. As a freshman, he averaged 11.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 0.9 blocks while shooting 47 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from three. 

Although the injury is disappointing for Looney, the defending champions have the depth necessary to withstand a setback.

With Draymond Green and Marreese Speights penciled into the Warriors rotation at the 4 and bigs like Andrew Bogut, Festus Ezeli and Jason Thompson set to eat up minutes at the 5, odds are Looney wasn't going to see the floor much at the start of his rookie season even if he had stayed healthy.
