It's spooky season, and AEW is leaning into it with Wednesday's Fright Night episode of Dynamite.

Here's a look at what was advertised for the card:

  • FTR vs. Motor City Machine Guns
  • Persephone vs. Queen Aminata (TBS Title)
  • Darby Allin vs. Josh Alexander (TNT Title)

Let's take a look at what happened on the Halloween edition of Dynamite.

The Death Riders vs. The Cut

1 of 1

After quickly pivoting from the stable name "The Last Outfit" to "The Cut" last week, Jay White and David Finlay teamed up to face Daniel Garcia and Jon Moxley in tag team action to kick off the Fright Night episode of Dynamite.

Mox and Switchblade started in the ring, but White quickly tagged out to Finlay to mess with Moxley a bit. Mox took him down with a shoulder tackle and then hit several chops in the corner and a dragon screw before tagging in Garcia for a double-team. The Cut was able to isolate Garcia with some quick tags.

This match unfolded in a relatively predictable way, but that's not necessarily a bad thing when you're trying to tell a specific story. The feud between The Cut and Death Riders is still new, so having the leaders of both groups involved in a tag match right away gives us a taste of their eventual singles match.

We got to see every combination of opponents, several double-team moments from both sides, and White did a great job re-embracing his heel side following his recent turn. It was smart to start with this match because it was good enough to get the crowd pumped, but it left room for the co-main events to outshine it.

Switchblade saved Finlay from an armbar, but when he attempted a Blade Runnder, Moxley countered with a Paradigm Shift. Wheeler Yuta showed up to fight off Ace Austin, but the distraction allowed Clark Connors to hit Garcia with a Spear, which led to White hitting the Blade Runner for the win.

The rest of The Cut and Death Riders arrived to continue the fight. It seemed like The Cut had the upper hand until Claudio Castagnoli took out everyone with uppercuts. Moxley issued a challenge for Full Gear.

Result: The Cut defeated The Death Riders

Grade: B

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Few announcers bring the kind of energy Excalibur has every week. Some fans might not take him seriously because of his mask, but he is one of the best working today.
  • Mox was not holding back with the chops to Finlay. White hit some stiff shots, too. One on Moxley was particularly loud.
  • Garcia hitting mounted punches to both opponents at the same time was a fun sequence. The crowd loves him and is ready for him to get another singles push.
  • White's kickout was questionable.
