George Pickens' Playing Time Spotlighted in Eye-Opening Stat from Cowboys' Win vs. Eagles
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens appears to be in the doghouse.
While Pickens finished with four catches for 57 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, his playing time seemed to be cut back. Bobby Belt of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas reported that Pickens played 12 fewer snaps than third-year wideout Ryan Flournoy, with most of his lost work coming in run situations after head coach Brian Schottenheimer called him out for his blocking last week.
Pickens was targeted just six times by Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott. Flournoy caught all four of his targets for 70 yards, while CeeDee Lamb led the way with five catches for 74 yards and two touchdowns on 12 targets. Dallas produced 204 yards on the ground, with starting running back Javonte Williams rushing for 155 yards and a touchdown.
Pickens now has 37 catches for 485 yards and two touchdowns this season, well behind last year's scorching pace. He's surpassed the 100-yard mark just once in seven games.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones downplayed the questions about Pickens' playing time, pointing out that all of the team's wide receivers were asked to do more in the run game.
"All of our receivers blocked well (Monday night). That's a credit to coaching. That's a point of emphasis," Jones said during his appearance on 105.3 The Fan.
Pickens is in a contract year, so he will try to get back to his usual production level when the Cowboys (3-4) fact the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) in Week 8.
