Jerry Jones Updates Cowboys' NFL Trade Deadline Plans After Win vs. Eagles on MNF

Adam WellsOct 27, 2026

Coming off a win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is keeping the door open to potential trades even though he's not currently finding many deals worth making.

Appearing on 105.3 The Fan's Shan and RJ show (h/t The Athletic's Jon Machota), Jones said he would "do it" when asked about a potential significant trade deadline acquisition but it's "unlikely" right now because few teams are trying to sell off good players.

Dallas already made one significant deal by sending its 2028 second-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Joey Porter Jr. on Sept. 30.

It's safe to assume if the Cowboys are to make a trade, it will be on the defensive side of the ball.

Despite their moves over the past 12 months to improve that unit, including trading a first-round selection to the New York Jets for Quinnen Williams prior to the deadline last year, they still rank 23rd in points allowed per game and 30th in EPA per play.

There are plenty of defensive players who have been mentioned as possible trade candidates leading up to the deadline. Names like DeForest Buckner, Khalil Mack, and Josh Sweat frequently pop up.

One factor Jones and the Cowboys front office would likely consider is the amount of draft capital they have already given up in trades to try upgrading the roster.

As things currently stand, the Cowboys only have four picks in the 2027 draft. They have already traded a third-round pick for Broderick Jones, a fourth-round pick for Rashan Gary and they still owe a fifth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers from the George Pickens deal.

Dallas' offense has had some hiccups, but it remains one of the elite units in the NFL. The Cowboys rank fifth in points per game after putting up a season-high 38 points against Philadelphia.

The Cowboys will play two more games โ€” against the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts โ€” before the Nov. 10 trade deadline. If they win both of those contests, they will be sitting at 5-4 going into the deadline.

Dallas has not been over .500 at any point since after Week 13 last season when it was 6-5-1 following a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
