Garrett Wilson's Heated Sideline Exchange Addressed by Jets HC Aaron Glenn After Loss to Dolphins
New York Jets star receiver Garrett Wilson's blow-up on the sideline during Sunday's 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins doesn't concern head coach Aaron Glenn.
While speaking to reporters on Monday, Glenn downplayed Wilson's heated exchange, which initially appeared to be with quarterback Geno Smith but was actually directed toward pass game coordinator Seth Ryan.
"Well, I think sometimes that's overblown as far as what people think is happening," Glenn said, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "Sometimes those conversations could be totally something else. And, listen, I know for a fact that Geno and Garrett, it was more or less, 'Man, let's get going and let's get the offense going' more than guys bickering at each other. I know what type of player Garrett is. I know what type of player Geno is, and I know where their heart's at, too."
Wilson was understandably frustrated while the Jets spent most of the game trailing behind a Dolphins team that entered the week with a 0-5 record. The star wideout was targeted just three times and finished with two catches for 26 yards in the loss.
After the game, Wilson explained his emotional outburst.
"We were collaborating," he told reporters. "I don't even think I was talking to Geno. I think we were both heated, but not at each other at all. We were just disappointed with how we were playing up to that point and wanted to be a little more aggressive. That's what that was."
After falling to 2-5, the Jets have done little to inspire confidence that they're making progress in Glenn's second year at the helm. Wilson has gone back-to-back games with under 50 yards despite being New York's best offensive weapon.
The Jets will try to find the right formula when they face the Las Vegas Raiders (3-4) in Week 8.
