Daniel Jones Benching Addressed by Shane Steichen After Colts Drop to 2-5 With Vikings Loss

Andrew PetersOct 25, 2026

The Indianapolis Colts are off to a disastrous 2-5 start to the 2026 campaign, but Daniel Jones' job isn't in jeopardy for now.

"No, I have not thought about a quarterback change," Colts head coach Shane Steichen said after Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. "Because I got a ton of faith in Daniel. The game plan today was to go in and run the football, and obviously at the end he had the interception, and that happens in football."

Jones had his worst game of the season on Sunday, throwing for just 108 yards on 13-of-22 passing with no touchdowns. He had a costly interception on the Colts' final offensive drive of the game as they trailed 16-10.

If Steichen decides to bench Jones, the next option would be Anthony Richardson, who appeared in just two games last year. Richardson, who played in 11 games in 2024, had 1,814 yards, eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions the last time he was the starter.

Jones has been significantly worse than he was during his breakout season in 2025, but it appears Steichen is giving him a long leash to turn things around.
