NXT TakeOver Brooklyn 2015: Date, Start Time, Matches, Live Stream, PPV Info

Ryan DilbertAug 21, 2015

NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn is not just competing against the Ring of Honor show set for the same night. In terms of match quality, it has a shot at competing with SummerSlam.

On Saturday, Aug. 22 at 9 p.m. ET, NXT has its biggest show to date. The developmental brand moves its latest special out of Full Sail University to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Merging the event into SummerSlam makes it bigger, as does bringing in one of Japan's most legendary wrestlers. Every NXT title is on the line. Kevin Owens and Sasha Banks, who both recently made their way to the main roster, will return to NXT in a pair of title bouts. And this will mark the first TakeOver special to travel outside of Florida.

That won't be the only first come Saturday night.

Apollo Crews makes his in-ring debut. Jushin "Thunder" Liger wrestles his first WWE match. And if Kevin Owens can defeat Finn Balor, he will become the first-ever two-time NXT champ.

Live Stream, PPV Info

Before TakeOver: Brooklyn kicks off, a half-hour pre-show will catch fans up on the all storylines, recapping feuds and firing off predictions. As announced on WWE.com, Lita will be part of the pre-show panel. The Hall of Famer will be joining Corey Graves, Renee Young and Byron Saxton on the broadcast.

The pre-show starts at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Fans can stream it live via the WWE Network(subscription required). It will also air for free on WWE.com, the WWE App, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest and Pheed.

Unless you have tickets, the only way to catch the TakeOver special itself is the WWE Network.

You can stream the marquee event via the 24/7 service on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, Apple TV, Roku devices or supported smart TVs. Visit WWE.com's network help section for a full list of compatible devices.

The WWE Network is available in over 140 countries. As of now, Japan, India and Germany are among the places without it. To check availability around the world, head to WWE.com.

Matches

  • Apollo Crews vs. Tye Dillinger
  • Blake and Murphy vs. The Vaudevillains (NXT Tag Team Championship)
  • Samoa Joe vs. Baron Corbin
  • Jushin "Thunder" Liger vs. Tyler Breeze
  • Sasha Banks vs. Bayley (NXT Women's Championship)
  • Finn Balor vs. Kevin Owens (Ladder match for NXT Championship)

Crews' Debut

As Uhaa Nation, Crews lit up the independent circuit with an impressive blend of a power and agility. He's both a top-notch powerhouse and high-flyer.

TakeOver: Brooklyn offers NXT fans their first look at him in his new home and under his new persona.

Even though Tye Dillinger has garnered some momentum with his "Perfect 10" gimmick, this is expected to be one-sided in Crews' favor. This is meant to be a showcase of the new talent. When Owens arrived, he dominated CJ Parker. Samoa Joe's first match saw him manhandle Scott Dawson.

Expect a similar result here with plenty of fireworks from the athletic dynamo beforehand.

Tag Team Rematch

Simon Gotch and Aiden English were moments away from dethroning Blake and Murphy recently. Alexa Bliss interfered and saved her boys, though.

Bliss has since been slapping the spit from The Vaudevillains' mouths. The No. 1 contenders have been busy earning another crack at the titles.

They have hinted over the last few weeks that they have someone who will help them even things up Saturday. It sure sounds like the tag team is teasing a new women's wrestler debuting.

Who is the Dominant Force?

Joe has torn apart Rhyno and knocked over lesser foes. Corbin can say the same thing.

The veteran now meets the emerging star.

Corbin has mostly been limited to short matches against low-rung opponents. This is his biggest test to date. A win over Joe vaults him up the NXT ladder. It's also his chance to show that he's ready to live up to all the potential that he has shown glimpses of so far.

Expect very little wrestling here. These are two wrecking balls colliding in the squared circle. It will be shocking if some furniture isn't broken by the end of it.

Liger Arrives in WWE

Breeze gets the opportunity of a lifetime. He had been demanding a special opponent; William Regal gave him one.

The Japanese superstar makes a rare trip to the U.S. and his first venture into NXT. While Liger is well past his prime, his arrival helps make TakeOver: Brooklyn more of a marquee event.

A Breeze wins points to him going far. NXT isn't going to ask Liger to lay down for a guy it doesn't have big plans for.

Their matchup is an odd combination of gimmicks and styles. That alone makes this an intriguing showdown.

Bayley's Quest Continues

Out to prove that she's one of the best women's wrestlers at NXT, Bayley has been on a mission to battle Banks. Along the way, she's knocked off Emma, Charlotte and Becky Lynch to earn this match.

Banks remains champion despite being a full-fledged member of the main roster. She will follow up this bout with her SummerSlam debut the next night.

Both women have been red-hot in the ring as of late. Banks has established herself as a producer of classics. Bayley has mastered the art of connecting with the crowd. Those skills merge for a bout with the potential to steal the show.

Gold Hanging Above the Ring

Like Banks, Owens has been busy doing his fighting on Raw and SmackDown. He comes back to NXT hoping to get back the title he lost to Balor in Japan at Beast in the East.

This will be just the second ladder match in NXT history. The first time around Neville outlasted Bo Dallas in an excellent showing. This promises to surpass that.

Owens is a master heel. Balor is a master showman. Things have grown more intense between them in recent weeks, which will add to the drama of the action here.

Balor is the clear favorite with Owens likely to be leaving NXT for good, but predictable as this may be, expectations for this showdown, like they are for this event as a whole, will be mighty high.
