The Dream and Valkyries went on to trade buckets throughout a relatively even first quarter before the visitors went on an 18-6 run at the end of the second half.
The Valkyries went into the break holding a 16-point advantage after attempting 21 more shots over the first two frames.
That was in part because the Valkyries took advantage of struggles with ball control by the Dream, which committed 14 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Kiah Stokes helped the Valkyries hang onto the lead in the third quarter with a historic defensive performance.
The Dream spent the second half chipping away at the deficit, bringing the score as close as six points in the final eight minutes of the fourth.
The Valkyries held off the comeback in part thanks to a clutch three-pointer from Veronica Burton with four and a half minutes left on the clock.
The Dream pushed within four points in the final 30 seconds before the Valkyries closed out the win.
Both teams shot less than 18 percent from deep, but the Valkyries attempted more shots (72-54) and forced more turnovers (18-9).
The Dream were unable to take advantage of the Valkyries racking up fouls as the home team went 22-from-31 from the foul line.
The Valkyries opened Game 1 of the championship series with a home win before conceding consecutive losses to the Dream.
Golden State will now get the chance to retake the series lead in Game 5, which is set to tip off Monday at 8 p.m. ET in San Francisco.
