Ravens CB Gives Funny Quote on Defending Ja'Marr Chase amid Bengals Star's Wild Stats
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey revealed that he doesn't particularly enjoy spending time guarding Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase ahead of a Week 7 matchup between the AFC North foes.
"It would be cool if I didn't match up with him so much," Humphrey told reporters Thursday (h/t Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk). "He's obviously one of the best in the game. Tee is right up there with him, in the Top 10, I think, in this league. There will be plays made, I think the biggest thing going into this matchup is to try to win more than they win and try to limit the explosives. That's the biggest thing when you're guarding those Top 10, Top 5 guys. It's an all-hands-on-deck game. We look forward to the challenge. I think it'll be a great opportunity."
Humphrey and Chase have faced off against each other in nine total games throughout their respective careers, with the wideout catching 77 passes for 1,245 yards and eight touchdowns in those contests (via Smith).
While they weren't individually matched up on every snap, Chase has remained productive when they have been.
He's caught 16 of 23 targets for 357 yards and two touchdowns with Humphrey in coverage across their eight regular-season meetings, according to Pro Football Focus. Bengals quarterbacks have also posted a 104.9 passer rating when throwing to Chase while Humphrey is defending him.
It's worth noting that Humphrey has recorded two interceptions during their one-on-one matchups, but it's safe to say that Chase has the upper hand in the overall rivalry.
This season, Humphrey has racked up 22 tackles and five passes defended to go along with a forced fumble.
As for Chase, he's hauled in 27 receptions for 289 yards and four touchdowns across five contests.
The Ravens have opened their 2026 campaign with a 4-2 record, while the Bengals sit at 3-2.
Kickoff between Baltimore and Cincinnati is on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
