Bears to Honor Mike Ditka with Fake Mustache Fan Giveaway for TNF Game vs. Patriots

Chicago Bears fans can honor late legendary head coach Mike Ditka by wearing fake mustaches at Thursday night's game against the visiting New England Patriots.

The Bears announced Thursday the franchise will be paying respect to Ditka with tributes including a "stadium-wide mustache giveaway."

Ditka, who coached the Bears to a Super Bowl 20 victory against the Patriots, died earlier this month at 86.

The Bears and Patriots are set to kick off their Week 7 matchup at 8:15 p.m. ET in Chicago.

The mustaches aren't the only item the Bears will be giving away in Ditka's honor Thursday.

The first 10,000 people to enter Soldier Field will also receive a knit headband inspired by the sweater vests Ditka wore on the sideline, according to the Bears.

Ditka will also be honored with a stencil and flag on the field as well as a moment of silence before kickoff, according to the team.

This marks the first time the Bears will have played at home since Ditka's death.

The Bears first honored Ditka with helmet decals featuring his number and a moment of silence at Lambeau Field ahead of a Week 5 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Chicago then debuted jersey patches featuring Ditka's number ahead of a Week 6 game at the Atlanta Falcons.

Ditka began his playing career and set a rookie tight end receiving yards record with the Bears in 1961. He later helped the Bears win the 1963 NFL championship.

After finishing out his playing career with the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, Ditka returned to coach the Bears from 1982 through 1992 in a stretch highlighted by seven playoff appearances and a Super Bowl.

The Bears are heading into the matchup looking to string together consecutive wins after Caleb Williams returned from a hamstring injury to lead his team to victory over the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday.

The tributes to Ditka might have contributed to driving up prices ahead of Thursday night's kickoff. The Week 7 matchup is on track to become the most expensive NFL game of the season so far, per TickPick data cited by ESPN's Field Yates.
