Buffalo Bills vs. Cleveland Browns Preseason Week 2 Odds, Betting Stats

OddsShark.comAug 19, 2015

Two AFC teams trying to earn their first win of the NFL preseason will square off in Cleveland Thursday night when the Browns host the Buffalo Bills as three-point home favorites at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark.

Both teams are looking to sort out their quarterback situations with newly signed veterans currently sitting ahead of second-year players on the depth chart.

In Cleveland, Josh McCown was brought in to be the starter ahead of Johnny Manziel, who struggled mightily as a rookie last year despite being a highly touted first-round draft pick and former Heisman Trophy winner.

McCown did not fare too well himself as the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season either, following a successful stretch with the Chicago Bears the previous year that earned him a nice paycheck. He did complete all five of his passes for 33 yards and one touchdown in last week’s 20-17 home loss to the Washington Redskins, while Manziel ran for a score.

Meanwhile, Buffalo signed Matt Cassel to be the starter over EJ Manuel, who like Manziel was also picked in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft and has failed to reach expectations. Manuel completed four of his eight passes for 89 yards with one touchdown in last week’s 25-24 home loss to the Carolina Panthers, after Cassel completed seven of his eight passes for 45 yards.

Another quarterback in the mix for Buffalo is Tyrod Taylor, a former draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens, who is reportedly also ahead of Manuel on the depth chart right now heading into Thursday's Bills vs. Browns betting matchup.

New Bills head coach Rex Ryan will get a good look at all three players against the Browns, although he will not have starting running back LeSean McCoy available due to a hamstring injury, as reported by Adam Schefter. McCoy was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason for linebacker Kiko Alonso.

However, Bryce Brown, another former Eagle, performed well against the Panthers last week with 52 rushing yards on six carries and a touchdown.

Buffalo and Cleveland last met in the preseason back in 2006, with the Browns winning 20-17 as 3.5-point road underdogs and total finishing over 34 points. They have split the past eight regular-season meetings both straight up and against the spread.
