At the halfway point of the 2026 college football season, the top NFL draft prospects are starting to emerge.

ESPN's Field Yates unveiled his latest mock draft for the top 10 picks in 2027, and he predicted that Oklahoma State's Drew Mestemaker will be the first quarterback off the board. The full top 10 is as follows:

  1. Los Angeles Chargers: Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State
  2. Miami Dolphins: Drew Mestemaker, QB, Oklahoma State
  3. Tennessee Titans: Leonard Moore, CB, Notre Dame
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Colin Simmons, Edge, Texas
  5. Washington Commanders: Dylan Stewart, Edge, South Carolina
  6. Philadelphia Eagles: Charlie Becker, WR, Indiana
  7. New York Jets (via DAL): C.J. Carr, QB, Notre Dame
  8. Houston Texans: Trevor Goosby, OT, Texas
  9. Arizona Cardinals: Trinidad Chambliss, QB, Ole Miss
  10. New York Jets: Ashton Hampton, CB, Clemson

Mestemaker has shot up draft boards thanks to his scorching start for the Cowboys, throwing for 1,940 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions through six games.

"The 20-year-old Mestemaker oozes upside, as the 6-3 215-pounder is a legitimate dual-threat player with exceptional creativity inside and outside of the pocket," Yates said. "... Despite not starting at quarterback in high school, Mestemaker has shown enough in just two college seasons -- one at North Texas -- to contend for the No. 1 pick. He is a fearless playmaker who can impact nearly every blade of grass on the field with his mobility and off-platform throwing skills."

After Mestemaker, Notre Dame's CJ Carr and Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss were the other quarterbacks projected to be selected in the top 10. Texas' Arch Manning and Oregon's Dante Moore, who entered the season pegged as the top two quarterback prospects in the nation, were absent from Yates' list.

The second half of the college football season could give some prospects the chance to improve their draft stock, but it's clear that the 2027 class is filled with talented players who deserve to be selected in the top 10.
