Lamar Jackson Reveals Severity of Ankle Injury, Latest on QB's Status for Ravens vs. Bengals

Andrew PetersOct 23, 2026

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson says he is "heading in the right direction" and could play in Sunday's Week 7 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals after returning to practice earlier this week as he recovers from a high ankle sprain.

"I can't call it right now. Still got a grace period. We'll see, man. Hopefully," Jackson said Friday. "But I feel like I'm heading in the right direction right now."

Ravens coach Jesse Minter said Jackson had gone through "a good couple of days" since rejoining practice in a limited capacity this week for the first time since Week 4.

"It's going to be a decision based on him and how he feels and how effective... he feels like he can be," Minter said (h/t ESPN's Jamison Hensley).

After avoiding injuries through the first three games of the season, Jackson exited the Ravens' Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans due to an ankle injury.

The ankle injury forced Jackson to miss the last two games, and Baltimore has gone 1-1 during that stretch. He reportedly had a chance to play in the Ravens' Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, but ultimately wasn't ready to return as Baltimore lost 13-10.

In four games, Jackson has thrown for 967 yards, six touchdowns and one interception, adding 144 yards and a score on the ground. The Ravens are sitting at 4-2 on the season heading into this week's matchup against the Bengals.

Tyler Huntley has filled in for Jackson in his absence and has collected 429 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and no interceptions.

Injuries have unfortunately been the story for Jackson over the last two seasons. He missed four games last year and finished the 2025 campaign with 2,549 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while rushing for 349 yards and two touchdowns.

The Ravens finished the season 8-9 and missed the playoffs, and they're hoping to avoid a repeat of the 2025 campaign.
