Former NFL punter Kasey Redfern died last week at the age of 35 after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2023.

According to Redfern's obituary, he died in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Oct. 13 as a result of central nervous system lymphoma.

After playing collegiately at Wofford College, Redfern bounced around between multiple NFL teams from 2014 to 2019.

He appeared in a total of four NFL regular-season games, punting in one contest for the Detroit Lions in 2017 and three games for the Atlanta Falcons in 2019.

On 10 career punts, Redfern averaged 42.1 yards per attempt with three punts downed inside the 20. He also had nine touchbacks on 16 kickoffs.

In addition to his stints in Detroit and Atlanta, Redfern spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys as part of their preseason rosters or practice squads.

Before a football coach discovered him in high school, Redfern played soccer as a goalkeeper and was part of the U17-U18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy, per his obituary.

Redfern is survived by his wife and two sons, as well as his parents and two brothers.
