U2 to Headline Halftime Show of NFL Thanksgiving Eve Game Between Packers, Rams on Netflix

When the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams meet in a Thanksgiving Eve game on Nov. 25, fans will be treated to a halftime show involving one of the most iconic rock bands of all time.

Netflix, which is the exclusive home of the NFL's first-ever Thanksgiving Eve game, announced Tuesday that U2 will perform during halftime at the Rams' SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California:

The Irish band, piloted by lead vocalist Bono, has won 22 Grammy Awards, and performed during halftime of Super Bowl XXXVI back in February 2002.

That Super Bowl halftime ranks among the most memorable and emotional of all time since it took place just months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Bono famously revealed an American flag upon opening his jacket, and the New England Patriots went on to upset the then-St. Louis Rams in what was quarterback Tom Brady's first of seven Super Bowl wins.

When the Packers and Rams clash on Thanksgiving Eve, though, it could prove to be a massive game in terms of playoff positioning in the NFC.

If the regular season ended today, the Packers would be the No. 5 seed in the NFC with a 4-2 record, while the Rams would miss the postseason with a 2-4 mark.

The Rams' struggles thus far have been shocking given that they were the Super Bowl favorite after a busy offseason that saw them acquire cornerback Trent McDuffie and pass-rusher Myles Garrett in trades with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns, respectively.

Garrett has not played since Week 1 due to a knee injury, though, and star wide receiver Puka Nacua missed a pair of contests as well.

While losses to contending teams such as the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills can be excused to some degree, Sunday's 18-16 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals came as a shock and suggests that head coach Sean McVay might have to make some changes.

As for the Packers, they have reeled off three consecutive wins after a 1-2 start, and they haven't even gotten their star defensive player back yet in pass-rusher Micah Parsons, who is working his way back from a torn ACL suffered last season.

Both Garrett and Parsons could potentially be back in the lineup when the Packers and Rams play on Thanksgiving Eve, adding some defensive firepower to two of the NFC's true heavyweights.
