Mike Evans Injured, Latest Updates on 49ers Star's Achilles and Status for Falcons Game
The San Francisco 49ers will be without receiver Mike Evans, among others, for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Evans missed the end of Monday's win over the Washington Commanders with an Achilles injury. He limped to the locker room shortly before halftime and was ruled out following intermission.
After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan downplayed the injury:
Evans had an injury designation of Achilles and ribs coming into the game, but the 49ers announced he was active prior to kickoff.
He will now miss Sunday's contest, which comes right before a Week bye.
The veteran was having an excellent game prior to the setback with three catches for 94 yards, 54 of which came on a single reception. It was more of the same after he dominated his last game against the Seattle Seahawks with seven catches for 113 yards and one touchdown.
Evans arrived in San Francisco this offseason after establishing himself as a franchise legend for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The No. 7 overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 years in the league. He was also a six-time Pro Bowler during that span and is one of the best players in Tampa Bay history.
However, injuries limited him to just eight games last season, which snapped his streak.
Evans' health is now under the microscope again following Monday's setback.
Wide receiver was already a position of concern for the 49ers even before this injury, as Deebo Samuel was sidelined against the Commanders. Ricky Pearsall is also out for the season, while De'Zhaun Stribling and Christian Kirk are sidelined as well.
While the team can rely on running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle, it will be up to players such as Brandin Cooks and Jacob Cowing to produce if Evans is out for an extended amount of time.
