Braylon Edwards Trolls 'Mid' Cowboys HC Schottenheimer, Reflects on Jets' 'Terrible' AFC Title Runs
Former NFL wide receiver Braylon Edwards thinks he knows what the problem is for the 2-4 Dallas Cowboys this season.
Edwards took to social media Monday and said "mid" Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who was also the offensive coordinator for his 2009 and 2010 New York Jets that reached the AFC Championship Game in back-to-back seasons, seems to be the issue:
While Schottenheimer has an offensive background, Dallas is a solid-but-unspectacular 13th in the league in yards this season and 11th in scoring despite having weapons that include Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Javonte Williams.
The numbers are notably similar to the 2010 Jets that finished 11th in yards and 13th in points after they were 20th in yards and 17th in points the previous year.
Edwards doesn't seem to be a big fan of Schottenheimer's work, but the No. 3 overall pick of the 2005 NFL draft who made just one Pro Bowl in his eight years in the league enjoyed the second-best season of his career in 2010 in the coach's offense.
He finished with 904 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches, which were his second-best numbers in each category behind his one Pro Bowl year in 2007.
As for this year's Cowboys, the offense is going to have to be better if they are going to be realistic contenders in the NFC. After all, the defense is 30th in yards allowed and 25th in points allowed and was not expected to be a dominant unit this season.
The offense, on the other hand, was expected to carry the team with so many playmakers on that side of the ball.
That offense managed just 13 points in Sunday's 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers with the final touchdown coming after the game was well in hand in the final minute. It wasn't good enough to compete against an NFC contender and will need to take strides if there is going to be meaningful improvement.
And it will be up to Schottenheimer to figure out how to unlock better production.
