Teruaki Sato to be Posted, Top MLB Landing Spots for Triple Crown Winner from Japan's Hanshin Tigers
Japanese star Teruaki Sato will be posted for MLB teams this offseason, according to Baseball America.
Sato had 39 home runs, 106 RBI and a .306/.383/.609 slash line in 143 games with the Hanshin Tigers this season. He's widely considered one of the top hitters available in what's a weak free-agent class.
Based on that, the 27-year-old will be on the radar for pretty much every team.

Ranking Tarik Skubal's Top Landing Spots ๐ฌ
The Los Angeles Dodgers could be a contender given their sizable Japanese contingent and recent track record for success. The Philadelphia Phillies might be watching their championship window close and need to get younger. The same goes for the New York Yankees after getting swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series.
Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter projected Sato could command a six-year, $120 million deal.
With the MLB labor battle looming, nobody can say for sure what the financial climate around the league will look like. Should owners succeed in instituting a hard salary cap and floor, the structure of player contracts will obviously change.
Sato's general valuation should at least encourage teams to pursue him. A $20 million annual salary is well within the means of a lot of franchises.
Munetaka Murakami's performance in 2026 offers some encouragement about how Sato will adjust to MLB pitching as well. The Chicago White Sox slugger hit 35 homers and had a 130 OPS+ as a rookie.
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto likewise had 33 home runs and 92 RBI in his first year as an MLB player.
Sato is picking a good time to make the jump to the United States because of the dearth of proven hitters in free agency.
Seattle Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena, Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki and Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe are the headliners from a position player perspective. They're all on the wrong side of 30, and none is a marquee star.
Sato might be the top name on the list for contenders who want to bolster their offense in 2027.
