Elina Svitolina Reveals End of Marriage with Fellow Tennis Player Gael Monfils

Elina Svitolina took to Instagram to announce the end of her marriage to fellow tennis player Gael Monfils.

Svitolina called the news "the most difficult thing I have ever had to share" and explained how Monfils supported her through the emotional toll of the Ukrainian War, which caused her to take a break from tennis at one point.

"But some battles happen deep inside you, and no amount of love from someone else can win them for you," Svitolina wrote. "With time, I came to understand that I need to find my way back to myself and that I cannot do that within our marriage."

Monfils previously indicated that he planned to retire at the end of the 2026 season, but the 40-year-old ultimately ended his career earlier this month. The French veteran would've had the chance to call it a career in front of his home fans at the Paris Masters, which starts on Oct. 31.

Svitolina and Monfils began their relationship in 2019 and were married in 2021. Their daughter was born in 2022.

"Together, we built a beautiful life, and we were given the most precious gift of all, our daughter, Skai," Svitolina wrote. "Skai will always come first. Our marriage is ending, but our family is not. We will always be her parents, side by side, at every step of her life."
