Jayden Daniels, Dan Quinn Hot Seat Addressed by Commanders Players After Tie, New NFL Rumors Reveal

Joseph ZuckerOct 19, 2026

The internal pressure on Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and coach Dan Quinn hasn't yet ramped up amid a 1-3-1 start to the 2026 NFL season, according to ESPN's John Keim.

Keim cited multiple players who indicated "the team has not lost confidence" in Daniels, Quinn or offensive coordinator David Blough after the meltdown in a Week 5 tie with the New York Giants.

The Commanders were well within field-goal range to win the game but never got the special teams unit on the field thanks to some disastrous clock management.

Keim described what happened at the team facility in the aftermath of the disappointing outcome:

"Daniels briefly addressed the offensive players in a meeting last Monday, and one player said some clapped for him. Other teammates seated in the front row — where Daniels always sits — dapped him up after he spoke. The player said it was reminiscent of how they responded to him two weeks prior, when he told them that he'd return from a dislocated left elbow suffered in Week 2. Then, they clapped and cheered loudly. Some even stood, according to multiple people who were in the room.

"Ultimately, Quinn, Blough and Daniels all accepted responsibility for the play -- both to the team and when addressing the media during their respective press conferences this week."

In terms of the bigger picture, Keim reported Quinn's future on the sideline "is not in immediate jeopardy" and that "ownership is aware of the support Quinn has in the locker room."

Appearing on 106.7 The Fan (via The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala), general manager Adam Peters didn't rule out making a midseason trade to improve the roster:

When it comes to Quinn, the patience of owner Josh Harris may not be infinite. The coach's seat could grow a bit warmer if the losses continue to pile up.

The state of the NFC East is probably helping his job security, though.

The Giants are leading the division at 3-2-1, and they're not inspiring a lot of confidence with Jameis Winston under center. The Philadelphia Eagles are snakebitten with injuries and riding a four-game losing streak. The 2-4 Dallas Cowboys are held back by having one of the league's worst defenses.

All is not lost for the Commanders, and beating the 5-0 San Francisco 49ers on Monday night would be an encouraging sign heading into a Week 7 bye.
