Jim Harbaugh Talks Mike McDaniel's Future, Says Chargers Will 'Address Everything' After Chiefs Loss

Timothy RappOct 18, 2026

The Los Angeles Chargers yet again struggled on the offensive side of the ball, managing just six points and 259 yards in a 23-6 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, a result that dropped them to 0-6.

And yet again, head coach Jim Harbaugh found himself addressing the future of offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and the play-calling duties.

"We're going to look at everything," he told reporters when asked if McDaniel would remain the play-caller. "The job I'm doing, it starts with me. The plan is we'll watch this and get with our offensive coaches. ... [Offense] Needs to be addressed."

"We have to address everything, guys, and especially offensively," he added. "We're not scoring enough points."

It was another brutal day for the team's offense, which also had two turnovers, gave up four sacks and was 0-for-3 on third down. The Chargers only rushed for 73 yards, far less than their average coming into the game (128.2 YPG), and remain one of the poorest passing offenses in football.

Something needs to change, and moving on from McDaniel feels more probable by the day. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, "There's a growing buzz that the Chargers will be [firing McDaniel], soon. Pass-game specialist Adam Gase, a former head coach of the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, is expected to take over if McDaniel is fired."

The Chargers have undergone a shocking regression from last season's 11-6 record and postseason appearance. At this point, the playoffs aren't on anybody's mind in Los Angeles—getting a single win, and getting the offense back on track, remains the top priority.
