Mercedes Mone Reveals Extent of Broken Nose, Wrestling with Injury After AEW WrestleDream vs. Thekla
AEW Women's World Champion Mercedes Mone has refused to let her broken nose stop her from getting back into the ring.
During the WrestleDream post-show media scrum on Saturday night, Mone told reporters that even though she is still recovering from surgery, she plans to remain a fighting champion.
"I'm one month and a half post-surgery on my nose. It's still very much broken, and I'm still pushing through every single week, but I love what I do," Mone said (h/t WrestlePurists). "I love defending my Women's Championship, and I'm here to be the best. So just having a broken nose, it's not gonna faze me. It's not gonna stop me from defending this. This is my destiny, so I'm ready to give everything I have for it."
Mone successfully defended her title against Thekla in the opening match of the main card of Saturday's WrestleDream pay-per-view. She wore a protective mask, which was later used as a weapon, as they went at it for 15 minutes to set the tone for the rest of the show.
Mone is one of the best women's wrestlers in the world, so fans will certainly be excited that she won't have to take time away from the ring during her recovery. It will be fun to see what's next for the champion after Saturday's victory.
