Derrick Henry Drops Honest Quote on Todd Monken Trash Talk Ahead of Ravens vs. Browns Rivalry Game

Julia StumbaughOct 17, 2026

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry is expecting some extra trash talk in the Cleveland locker room now that his former offensive coordinator Todd Monken is coaching the Browns.

"He might not say it in the media, but to the team, he definitely talks a lot of trash and letting them know he wants to beat us," Henry said Thursday ahead of Sunday's game between the Ravens and Browns in Cleveland.

Monken said Friday he had been sent the clip of Henry mentioning his trash talk by multiple people ahead of the Week 6 matchup (h/t ESPN's Justin Cooper).

"It's not personal. It's strictly business... do I want to win? Not more than any other week," Monken said. "And my message isn't any different this week than it was the previous five weeks."

Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey didn't seem to expect Monken would approaching the matchup like any other game when asked about his former coordinator earlier this week.

"If I know Todd the way I think I know Todd, he will want to kick our tail," Humphrey said (h/t The Baltimore Sun's Josh Tolentino).

Monken served as offensive coordinator under former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh from 2023 to 2025, a span over which multiple key players including Lamar Jackson and Rashod Bateman recorded the best seasons of their NFL careers so far.

Bateman said earlier this week it would be up to Ravens players to shift the narrative away from the matchup against their former coordinator (h/t Fox Baltimore's Morgan Adsit).

"I think, when you're a player, you've got to make the choice whether you want to make this game about Todd Monken, or do you want to make it about going to play football," Bateman said. "I'm pretty sure Todd Monken is not worried about Rashod Bateman, or what he's doing in Baltimore. He's worried about getting the Cleveland Browns right to beat us."

The Ravens (4-1-0) are heading into the matchup on a three-game win streak but without Jackson, who was ruled out for Week 6 with an ankle injury.

Tyler Huntley will be starting in Jackson's place against Deshaun Watson and the Browns (3-2), which are looking to bounce back from a Week 5 loss at the New York Jets. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET in Cleveland.
