Dan Quinn Hot Seat, Josh Harris' Stance Updated in New NFL Rumors After Commanders' Tie vs. Giants
Despite the embarrassing moment for the Washington Commanders at the end of overtime last week resulting in a tie against the New York Giants, head coach Dan Quinn isn't in imminent danger of losing his job.
Per The Ringer's Tom Pelissero, Commanders owner Josh Harris has "never been a believer in midseason coaching changes" and the expectation is Quinn will get the chance to turn things around starting on Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers:

Predicting When QBs Get Benched โน๏ธ
"Commanders owner Josh Harris has never been a believer in midseason coaching changes. But in the wake of last week's overtime debacle in a tie with the Giants (which we talked about in depth on The Ringer NFL Show) he'll be paying close attention to how Dan Quinn's team responds Monday night at San Francisco."
The Athletic's Jonathan Jones added that Quinn, Jayden Daniels and offensive coordinator David Blough all addressed the team this week following the Giants' debacle to take accountability for the final sequence:
"Quinn spoke to the entire team Monday, telling them that everything starts with him and that he should have been better. The secondary message was that while everyone has to be accountable, everyone should hold others accountable, too. Daniels and Blough each addressed the offense individually."
Shy Tuttle gave the Commanders a chance to at least get an attempt at a game-winning field goal when he recovered a Cam Skattebo fumble with 1:55 remaining in overtime.
The Commanders picked up 51 yards in five plays and had a first-and-10 from New York's 26-yard line with 55 seconds on the game clock. Rachaad White gained two yards on a run, then the offense took its time getting into the huddle on second down.
Daniels snapped the ball with 15 seconds, briefly ran around and was sacked by Tremaine Edmunds. Since neither team had a timeout remaining at that point, the time expired to keep the score 27-27.
During his postgame press conference, Quinn shouldered the blame by saying "it's on me" to make sure Daniels knew to either throw the ball out of bounds or spike it so they could have had time to get the field-goal unit on the field.
Daniels didn't directly answer a question about if he knew the Commanders were out of timeouts, instead saying they "just got to communicate" and that "starts with me" in the huddle.
The tie moved the Commanders to 1-3-1 this season, though it was encouraging aside from the final score to see how well Daniels played in his first game back after dislocating his elbow in Week 2.
Daniels threw for 199 yards and ran for 103 yards in the game. It was his second career game with at least 100 rushing yards.
Quinn is in his third season as Washington's head coach. He led the team to a 12-5 record and an appearance in the NFC Championship Game in his first season.
Since the start of 2025, though, the Commanders record is 6-15-1. That is the sixth-worst record in the NFL during that span.
Washington will go for its second win of the season against the undefeated 49ers at Levi's Stadium on Monday Night Football.
