Latest Tyreek Hill Rumors on Concerns About Injury and Contract amid Chiefs Buzz

Mike ChiariOct 17, 2026

Multiple factors reportedly are playing a role in free-agent wide receiver Tyreek Hill not yet signing with a new team.

According to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, the health of Hill's knee after tearing his ACL in September 2025, as well as the belief that he does not want to sign a veteran minimum contract, are contributing to him remaining a free agent.

While Hill has been linked to a return to the Kansas City Chiefs since he spent his first six seasons with the organization and could potentially help their injury-ravaged receiving corps, Jones noted that he does not "get the sense" the Chiefs are "in a rush" to sign him.

The 32-year-old Hill earned six Pro Bowl and three First Team All-Pro selections, in addition to winning a Super Bowl during his time in Kansas City.

His strong play carried over to his tenure with the Miami Dolphins, as he was a Pro Bowler and First Team All-Pro in each of his first two seasons in Miami before injuries hampered his effectiveness in 2024 and limited him to four games in 2025.

Overall, the speedy Hill is a potential future Hall of Famer with 819 receptions for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns in 145 career regular-season games.

It is already known that he has on-field chemistry with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but there is no indication that his return to Kansas City is a sure thing.

The Chiefs will likely be without wide receiver Tyquan Thornton for the rest of the regular season, and No. 1 wideout Rashee Rice is out this week with a hamstring injury.

That leaves Xavier Worthy, 2025 fourth-round pick Jalen Royals and rookie fifth-round pick Cyrus Allen as Kansas City's only real options at wide receiver this week.

Jones noted that KC "continues to sniff around the wide-receiver trade market," and if the Chiefs do make a trade for a speed wide receiver, it would likely be a "negative development for a Hill reunion."

Back in July, Hill posted a workout video during which he said he had "no power" in his left leg while rehabbing the torn ACL:

However, Hill has looked more explosive in subsequent videos, and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show (h/t Kyle Dvorchak of NBC Sports) last month that multiple teams had expressed interest in Hill and that he could return to action "perhaps some time in October."

It is fair to wonder how a receiver whose game is predicated on speed will truly bounce back from a torn ACL at 32 years of age.

That is likely part of the hangup between the Chiefs and Hill, although Kansas City can ill afford any additional injuries at the receiver position.

Should the injuries continue to mount, there may not be a better option available to them, particularly one who knows and understands head coach Andy Reid's offense like Hill does.
