Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams fired back at criticism surrounding his reaction to suffering a hamstring injury during the team's 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.

"Yeah, I'm always going to show emotion, especially when I can't be out there with the guys when something like that happens," Williams told reporters Thursday. "When I went through the draft process I went to two places. The two places was here and popped over to the Vikings for a visit, as we all know. They asked me, 'What's the difference between you and everyone else?' It's because I care about the team, the organization, winning, being out there, my teammates, all that."

"I care, and that's the biggest thing," he added. "This is what I love to do. This puts a smile on my face. It's everything to me. So, not being able to be out there was frustrating. That was more of the tears, or whatever that was. The other half of it was everybody making jokes and all that, but that doesn't bother me."

In the fourth quarter of the matchup with Minnesota, Williams went down with a non-contact injury while scrambling outside the pocket. He was eventually carted off the field, giving an emotional thumbs up to the crowd at Soldier Field.

Williams ultimately avoided a season-ending injury, but explained to reporters on Thursday that he suffered a "pretty serious" hamstring tear.

The signal-caller has missed each of Chicago's three games since the injury occurred, while the Bears have relied on Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent under center.

The team currently owns a 3-2 record as it looks to clinch a second consecutive NFC North title.

Williams' status for Week 6 is still uncertain, although he was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft completed 65.5 percent of his throws for 407 yards and two touchdowns compared to one interception in his first two appearances this season.
