Stephen Amell and Neville vs. Stardust and King Barrett: Winner and Reaction

Mike ChiariAug 23, 2015

The long-running feud between actor Stephen Amell and Stardust finally reached its boiling point Sunday night as the Arrow star and Neville defeated Stardust and King Barrett in a tag team match at SummerSlam.

WWE had the finishing move from Neville:

One of the highlights of the match was Amell jumping from the top rope to attack Barrett, via the WWE SummerSlam Twitter account:

Amell more than held his own in the ring, as Bleacher Report's Chris "The Doctor" Mueller and Ryan Dilbert pointed out:

Amell celebrated with Neville after the match:

Despite the win, Amell didn't escape without enduring some pain on his back, as he tweeted after the match:

Amell also took a picture with Triple H:

Stardust and Amell have been at odds for months after the former Cody Rhodes confronted the Hollywood standout on an episode of Raw in May. Ever since then, the bizarre Superstar has done everything in his power to goad Amell into a match.

The bout was officially set two weeks before SummerSlam when Amell jumped the guardrail at Raw and attacked Stardust. The 34-year-old Canadian speared and punched his tormentor, and he was quite proud of his actions afterward:

Triple H admonished Amell for involving himself with Stardust in the ring, but after Amell and Neville begged for a tag match at SummerSlam, The Game relented on the condition that he and WWE wouldn't be held responsible for what might happen to the actor at the hands of Stardust and Barrett.

Despite the fact that Amell got the upper hand entering SummerSlam, Stardust was confident he would gain an extreme measure of revenge against his nemesis:

Stardust furthered his feud with Amell in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam by focusing his attention on The Man That Gravity Forgot. The deranged villain reasoned that Neville was a superhero much like the Green Arrow, and he made it his goal to put the Englishman out of commission.

Barrett wasn't part of the angle until very late in the game, but it didn't take him long to impose his will, as he and Stardust jumped Neville backstage when Amell wasn't present.

After that, the King of Bad News vowed to put a hurting on Amell as well:

Stardust and Barrett were billed as the favorites from a storyline perspective due to Amell's lack of experience in the ring, but in all reality, the vast majority of WWE fans expected the combination of the Green Arrow and the Red Arrow to come out on top.

WWE has a rich history when it comes to celebrity involvement at big events, and when those celebrities are placed in matches, they simply don't lose.

Sunday's SummerSlam clash was no different, and although losing to an actor doesn't necessarily help Stardust and Barrett, the bout wasn't a total lost cause in terms of building up stars who are on the full-time roster.

Neville was given a chance to shine, and that is precisely what he did by doing much of the heavy lifting for his team. The former NXT champion's usage has been inconsistent since making the leap to the main roster, but there is no question that he deserves to be in a featured position.

He proved his worth once again at SummerSlam, and if his performance is a sign of things to come, then there are big things in his future.
