Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Dean Ambrose
Over the last several weeks, all Dean Ambrose has been talking about is how close he is to Roman Reigns and how they're family. When something is mentioned that often in wrestling, it's likely a swerve.
Ambrose has been wallowing in the midcard for months. He is one of the most popular stars on the roster today and should be getting a push toward the world title. Instead, he is stuck being the backup for the less talented Reigns.
Eventually, The Lunatic Fringe will be tired of playing second fiddle.
While joining The Wyatt Family wouldn’t make much sense either, SummerSlam is the perfect opportunity for Ambrose to be accidentally hit by a Reigns spear or Superman punch. Ambrose can play along with the game, but he can pay his partner back later in the match at a crucial moment.
The image of Ambrose walking away from Reigns as Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper pick the bones would speak volumes. Ambrose is one of the most talented all-around performers in wrestling today, and turning on Reigns would give him the edge he needs.
Seth Rollins
As one of the top heels in the wrestling business today, it's hard to imagine WWE world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins turning face, but he may not have a choice in the matter thanks to a Sheamus cash-in attempt.
The WWE will be looking for ways to book itself out of the champion-vs.-champion match between Rollins and John Cena, and one viable option is having Sheamus cause a disqualification and cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase.
If Sheamus were to beat Rollins for the title, it would cause much of the WWE Universe to feel sympathy for the champion because the belt was stolen, but the face turn would be complete when the new titleholder aligned with The Authority and Triple H and Stephanie McMahon cast Rollins aside.
Wrestling fans can all agree that Rollins has been booked poorly thus far during his title run, but booking Sheamus to steal the championship at the behest of The Authority would make the WWE Universe sympathize with Rollins.
Lana
One of the most intriguing possibilities for Sunday’s PPV is Lana turning on Dolph Ziggler and realigning with Rusev. Lana and Rusev are a couple outside the ring, and they found the most success of their careers together.
Rusev and Summer Rae have been a great comedy duo in recent weeks while Ziggler was on the shelf, but The Bulgarian Brute is too talented in the ring to be relegated to a secondary storyline designed for laughs.
Instead, Ziggler and Rusev will be able to showcase what makes them so great in the ring Sunday, but the groundwork has been set for months regarding an eventual heel turn for Lana. The hope is that SummerSlam is the reunion many wrestling fans have been waiting to see.
This storyline has helped no one in the long run, and the sooner it is over, the better it will be for all four participants. Please, WWE, let Lana turn heel and reunite with Rusev.
