Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper: Winner and Reaction

Mike ChiariAug 23, 2015

In a match that was billed as family versus family, former Shield brethren Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose defeated the team of Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper Sunday night at SummerSlam.

A Reigns spear sealed the deal for the win, and WWE provided a photo of the two winners:

Ambrose carried most of the match, at one point running across the announce tables of multiple countries, per the WWE Universe:

But it was Reigns who sealed the deal with moves like The Powerhouse on Harper, via WWE SummerSlam:

Issues between The Shield and The Wyatt Family date back a couple of years, but they recently returned to the forefront, with Wyatt attempting to make Reigns' life a living hell.

The Eater of Worlds prevented Reigns from nabbing the Money in the Bank contract, which led to a match between them at Battleground. While it seemed as though The Powerhouse was en route to victory in that contest, he was assaulted by a hooded individual who ended up being Harper. That allowed Wyatt to pick up the win and gain the upper hand in the rivalry.

With a rejuvenated Wyatt Family now gunning for Reigns, The Juggernaut decided to enlist the services of his only ally in the form of Ambrose. The Lunatic Fringe was more than happy to oblige due to his past issues with the Wyatts, and he was excited to throw down at SummerSlam, according to WWE Universe on Twitter:

Reigns felt the same way and was supremely confident that he and his unhinged partner would find a way to defeat Wyatt and Harper at one of the year's biggest shows:

While Reigns and Ambrose were able to come out on top in what was a highly entertaining affair, it remains somewhat unclear where all four Superstars will go from here. A continuation of the feud is always possible, but that may not be particularly fruitful moving forward.

Although it is usually fun to watch The Shield and The Wyatt Family lock horns in the ring, the fact of the matter is that WWE hasn't placed much emphasis on the feud or provided much storyline advancement over the past several weeks.

The battle between Reigns and Wyatt started off with some promise and gained a bit of intrigue when Harper rejoined The Wyatt Family, but it has essentially been in a holding pattern ever since.

Reigns, Ambrose, Wyatt and Harper would benefit from something fresh, especially because there isn't much left to be told in terms of the rivalry between the two teams.

WWE has four very unique individuals on its hands, and it feels as though all of them could be utilized more effectively moving forward. Their in-ring chemistry is obvious, and it was on full display once again Sunday, but there are fresher and more exciting things that can be done with all of them in the coming weeks and months.
