Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez Reportedly in 'Advanced Talks' for 2027 Fight, New Rumors Reveal

Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez are in "advanced talks" regarding a welterweight boxing title unification fight that would take place in the first quarter of 2027, according to Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine.

Garcia is the current WBC welterweight champion, while Lopez is the WBA (super) welterweight title holder.

There is an outstanding issue, though. On Sept. 22, WBA ordered Lopez to defend his title against Jack Catterall in his next fight. Per ESPN's James Regan, Lopez and Catterall were given 30 days (Oct. 22) to negotiate a deal before purse bids were ordered.

Coppinger addressed the Catterall situation on social media and doesn't believe the WBA's ruling will affect the potential Garcia-Lopez bout.

Last Saturday during the broadcast of Floyd Schofield-Lucas Bahdi (h/t Ring), DAZN's Chris Mannix reported Lopez could seek legal action in order to fight Garcia without losing his WBA belt.

It's clear Lopez wants Garcia, who called him out in the ring on Sept. 12 after he beat Connor Benn via second-round TKO to retain his WBC crown. Lopez tried to enter the ring but got held back.

Lopez earned his belt after beating Rolando Romero via majority decision last August. Garcia got his title after taking down Mario Barrios via unanimous decision last February.
