Jose Ramirez Takes Blame for Guardians' ALCS G2 Loss to Rays After Mistakes, 'I Feel Bad About That'

Cleveland Guardians star José Ramírez owned up to his defensive misplay that helped give the Tampa Bay Rays the lead in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series.

Ramírez called his error "frustrating" and added that "I feel bad about that."

"It's a little bit faster here with the surface and I was playing parallel to the base," he said through an interpreter, per ESPN.com. "The ball bounced right on the edge between the dirt and the turf, and that's what made it a little more difficult for me. I tried to knock it down."

The seven-time All-Star let a ground ball from Rays second baseman Ben Williamson get under him, which allowed one run to score. Catcher Liam Hicks came up next and hit a two-run single.

Instead of Cleveland getting out of the inning without allowing a run, it was down 3-0.

It didn't help that the offense went to sleep after scoring seven runs on 14 hits in Game 1. Designated hitter Chase DeLauter drove home the Guardians' only run with an RBI double in the seventh, and they combined to go 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

All things considered, heading to Progressive Field with the ALCS tied at 1-1 is a good position for Stephen Vogt's squad.

And if there's anybody who earned a pass for making a costly mistake, it's Ramírez. He's batting .333 and slugging .667 so far in the postseason.

The series resumes Thursday. Having a home crowd behind them should help the Guardians move past their Game 2 disappointment.
