World Series 2026 Updated Bracket Predictions Before Rays vs. Guardians ALCS Game 3

Zach BuckleyOct 14, 2026

The 2026 ALCS is now a best-of-five.

After the Cleveland Guardians grabbed Game 1, the Tampa Bay Rays recovered to take Game 2 on Tuesday. With the series shifting to Cleveland for Game 3, things are knotted at 1-1, putting both clubs three victories away from a World Series trip.

It should be a nail-biter moving forward, as these teams might be too similar for either to separate. What they lack in payroll and name recognition, they more than make up for in fundamentals, contact, chaos-creation on the basepaths and all-the-little-things small ball.

Stylistic clashes can be great to watch this time of year, but it's hard to beat watching a team effectively trying to conquer its mirror image.

What to Watch in Game 3

2 of 3
American League Championship Series: Cleveland Guardians v Tampa Bay Rays - Game Two

Cleveland's pitchers finished Game 2 without a single earned run allowed. So, how did this team drop a 3-1 contest?

It all had to do with Guardians star third baseman Josรฉ Ramรญrez and his uncharacteristically rough fourth inning. He followed a mental mistake with a fielding error, allowing the Rays to plate all three of their unearned runs.

"It's frustrating," Ramรญrez told reporters through an interpreter. "I feel bad because I wasn't able to make that play and after that the runs came in. I feel bad about that."

Ramรญrez's teammates surely reminded him they'd never be in this position without him. He might have been due for some stumbles after engineering a legendary run between Cleveland's ALDS comeback and ALCS Game 1 victory, tallying eight hits, eight RBI, seven runs scored and two home runs over that four-game stretch.

A Guardians' path to victory starts with following Ramรญrez's and getting more great innings out of Gavin Williams (1.54 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 11.2 innings this postseason). Play sound defense, pressure the opponents with contact and speed, and that's the blueprint for victory.

Of course, it's basically the same one used by Tampa, which is turning to Griffin Jax for the Game 3 start after he was only needed for relief work in its sweep of the New York Yankees. But the Rays also must find a way to activate star slugger Junior Caminero, who had 42 homers and 101 RBI in the regular season but is homerless with a single RBI through five playoff games so far.

World Series Predictions

3 of 3
National League Championship Series: Los Angeles Dodgers v Milwaukee Brewers - Game One

While no one should discount the Los Angeles Dodgers and their ability to do...well, anything, it'd be hard to take them over the Milwaukee Brewers right now. Climbing out of an 0-2 hole is always tricky, but it sounds like a nightmarish task against a 103-win team.

So, our crystal ball is ready to pencil the Brewers into the championship round. But who will meet them there?

The Guardians would be a great story. They last won a World Series in 1948. They were pushed to the brink by the White Sox before recovering just in time to win three straight had-to-have-them games. Save for Ramรญrez, they lack recognizable stars, but they know how to win without them.

The problem is the Rays are just a better team. The better team may not always come out on top, but it's usually the smart one to pick.

Cleveland was above-average this season (85 wins, plus-11 run differential); Tampa Bay was terrific (98 wins, plus-86). The Rays have a real masher in their lineup with Junior Caminero, but they also have depth, speed and contact. They pitch and defend, too.

The Guardians look good, but the Rays look a better version of the same team. Look for Tampa to secure its spot alongside Milwaukee in the World Series.
