Both offenses had a slow start, going scoreless through the first three-and-a-half innings, but Tampa Bay broke things open in the top of the fourth.

Junior Caminero got on base with a walk, but was thrown out on a fielder's choice, leaving Victor Mesa Jr. on first with one out. After Jonny DeLuca struck out, Chandler Simpson hit a two-out single to keep the inning alive and move Mesa to third, and Mesa managed to score on a fielding error.

Liam Hicks then hit a single to center field to drive in a pair of runs and give the Rays a 3-0 lead.

The Guardians didn't respond until the seventh when Chase DeLauter drove in a run with a double.

The Rays stranded two Cleveland runners on base, though, keeping a two-run lead heading into the stretch. The Guardians followed up the seventh by going down in order in the eighth inning.

The Guardians' defense did its part, getting six straight outs to avoid any more damage in the seventh or eighth innings, but Cleveland's offense never woke back up, going down in order in the top of the ninth.

While the Guardians would have liked to take a 2-0 lead on Tuesday, they managed to steal Game 1 on the road and will have the chance to regain the lead in the series at home on Thursday.
