Terrell Owens Reveals He Calls Jameis Winston Weekly Amid Giants QB1 Role & Talks Cowboys Struggles

Zach BacharOct 13, 2026

Hall of Famer Terrell Owens explained that he's been in contact with New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston after he took over as the team's first-string passer.

"I call him every week," Owens said on his Get TO the Point podcast (10:57 mark). "I tell him, I text him. I said, 'Look, I'm going to be your accountability voice.' Like, bro, play like you're supposed to play... I'm not trying to be prophetic by any means, but I know that there's greatness in him."

Winston has served as New York's starter since Jaxson Dart suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2.

The Giants have still been able to find success with Winston, holding an early lead atop the NFC East standings. They own a 3-1-1 record, which includes a 2-0-1 mark in his three starts.

Winston has completed 57.6 percent of his throws for 805 yards and six touchdowns compared to three interceptions this season.

Owens also weighed in on the current state of the Dallas Cowboys, the team that he spent three years of his legendary career playing for.

"Yeah, they are definitely in trouble," Owens said (14:33 mark). "If you can't beat the Buccaneers, who are 0 and 4? Yeah, I mean, this is one embarrassing loss after another embarrassing loss. I already told you man with the players at their receiver position there are playmakers and game changers, Dak can only do so much."

The Cowboys have gone 2-3 through their first five games and are coming off a 24-16 loss to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad that entered the matchup with an 0-4 record. Buccaneers quarterback Jalon Daniels, an undrafted rookie, was also making just the second start of his career.

Dallas has continued to struggle defensively this season, ranking No. 31 among all teams by allowing 395.4 total yards per game.

The Cowboys have been inconsistent despite Dak Prescott's efficient start to the year, as he's thrown for 1,381 yards and nine touchdowns while getting picked off three times.
