Jim Harbaugh Takes Blame for Broncos Loss as Chargers Drop to 0-5, Talks Justin Herbert's Struggles
The Los Angeles Chargers are off to their worst start in decades after a loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Amid the 0-5 start, Jim Harbaugh is taking the blame. The head coach took ownership of several late miscues, as well as quarterback Justin Herbert's struggles.
There's plenty wrong with the Chargers amid the 0-5 start, but their offense has been by far the weakest link. Sunday marked Herbert's worst game of the season as he threw for just 121 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Despite the lackluster game from Herbert, the Chargers were on the brink of a big win over a divisional foe. They trailed by just three points late in the fourth quarter and had the chance to tie or take the lead, but their drive quickly ended. Herbert threw an interception and gave the ball back to Denver near the red zone.
While Los Angeles' defense prevented a touchdown, the Broncos went up by six points on a field goal.
Herbert had one last chance to lead a game-winning drive and got the Chargers into Denver territory, but he took a sack and time expired.
"We gotta do whatever we can to win football games and make plays and do what we can to score points, and we haven't been doing that," Herbert told reporters. "We gotta do that better."
The Chargers appeared to be a team on the rise with Harbaugh at the helm and Herbert under center, reaching the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. They came into this year as a potential Super Bowl contender.
Now, Los Angeles would be lucky to even make the playoffs, and it could lead to drastic changes at the end of the season.
